Compleat Bondage Library

>>> If you were going to put together a collection of books dealing with
BDSM in some fashion...what would you include? <<<
_Different Loving_, by Brame, Brame, and Jacobs, naturally.
And well, since you did say "Compleat," I feel comfortable offering the
following "bonus titles" from my master's collection for your list (he's
gonna kill me if he sees this--g):
From our "Tacky Titillating Tales of Terror Masquerading as Scientific
Social Studies" shelf we have:
1. The Spanking Experience, no author, 1975 Candid Books
A collection of "true" stories and letters which begins "Perhaps no
other physical sensation is as native to the human body as that of spanking."
There is a black and white photo that does not go with the text on every
other page. The photos are actually quite good!
2. Spanking: sex or sadism?, by Hugh Jones, 1965 by Brandon House
And here you thought you answered that question first, Mr. Jacobs! From
the front cover: "Never before published! The sensational, intriguing
facts behind the revival of an age-old practice that is creeping back
into the boudoirs of America!" More scientific case stories--heh! One of
the chapters is a tape-recorded spanking session. And a cute little
drawing on the front cover.
3. The Punishment Complex, by Reed Gilmore, 1967 by Unique Books, Inc.
This book has a picture of a whip on the cover and the following quote
by Wm. Shakespeare: "The pleasing punishment that women bear." Under
the whip it says, "Social behavior series for adults." On the back it says,
"A scientific, documentary survey of the secret urges of male and
female, case histories of the dominant female, the erotic flagellant,
the compulsive spanker and the female homosexual. An astonishing book,
bold and penetrating." The last chapter in this book, Punishment
Devices, contains descriptions of some interesting items, including a
Leather Pom Pom.
4. Sadism, by Andre Tarade (front cover), by Sandor Siegel (cover page
in book), 1966 by ZIL, Inc.
The cover is great. Against a black background you see a simple white
drawing of an arm and hand that looks like it's had all the skin removed.
The title of the book is red, with giant red drops dripping from it, and
it says: "spanking * flogging * whipping * voluntary flagellations * blood
spilling orgies * hell raising clubs * lust murders: These are not the ONLY
possible manifestations of sadistic behavior. YOU may be committing acts
of sadism, without even knowing it..." (They've got a point...after all,
I *am* publishing these book descriptions.) This is a historical tome, not
case studies. Each chapter deals with a different historical period,
concluding with the present (or, at least 1966). Why, there's even a chapter
on the Inquisition: "Chapter Three: MEN-MONSTER MANGLERS." There is a
glossary in the back. Oh, also on the front cover, underneath the 95
cents, are the words, "An Original Social Behavior Book." I am beginning
to notice a pattern here.
5. Bondage Clubs U.S.A., by Robert Newton, 1967 by Wee Hours Books, Inc.
From the front cover: "A documented study with a fully-detailed insight
into the unusual practices of this `ancient sport', as it exists in our
society today. Social Behavior Series for Adults." (Ok, that does it.
Next time I go to the library, I'm finding out where the "social behavior"
section is.) The Preface consists of the following unattributed quote:
"Profound truths are not readily understood, nor are their aims
comprehended" (I can't argue with that) and the following text "Bondage
Clubs are slowly, but most definitely acquiring an established claim in
our present society. It is not a question of acceptance or rejection on
our part, but a matter of total awareness and complete understanding."
Amidst the luridly-written stories in this book, there are charts and graphs
borrowed from the Kinsey Institute of Sex Research. (Yo! Nightfly! Was it
you who suggested that this sort of thing, as well as the "case-history"
style of writing, was done to get past the censors?)
(and now, for one of my personal favorites...)
6. CASEBOOK: TOTAL HUMILIATION: MAKING GIRLS BEHAVE SEXUALLY by ????,
1977 by Star Distributors, Ltd.
On the cover is a drawing of a guy with a naked (except for her knee-high
socks), blindfolded, and bound platinum blond with a flip over his lap.
He is getting ready to insert an enema nozzle into her bottom. In the
center of the picture (but not blocking the insertion) is a little white
circle with text: "NEW: Swinger ads and pics inside" (yes, they are there.)
From the back cover: "I wanted to scream in pain and rage--but my mouth
was crammed with Mark's dirty jock-strap..."--from a tape recorded
interview.
7. Spanking and..., by Dr. Guenter Klow, 1969 by Consolidating Publishing
From the front cover: "The practice of spanking without pain for passionate
arousal and coupled with fellatio, cunnilingus, anal worship to satiate
unusual appetites. Discussed in realistic terms. A clear look at the SM
philosophy." On the back: "Spanking! Discovered by accident, practiced by
design. Dr. Guenter Klow presents a comprehensive study of this
phenomenon as it occurs in the family unit and between friends and/or
lovers. A documentary classic." According to the inside cover, Dr. Klow
is also the author of Women Who Seduce Boys, More Women Who Seduce Boys,
Still More Women Who Seduce Boys, Women Who Seduce Boys, Book IV, Women
Who Seduce Girls (well, it's about time!), Women who Seduce Women, Male
Sex Slaves, Oral and Anal Sex, and, according to the Editor's Note in the
back, he has "already begun Volume Two in his serious study of the
spanking phenomenon. In order to allow for easier identification, we shall
give the second volume a similar title." What an original idea!
7. Sadism and Masochism by ??? pub. ??? by ???
The case histories are in large print in this one, but there is at least
one photo per page, sometimes two! Unfortunately the photos are rather
tame: 3 pretty women with Sixties' boufant hairdos doing extremely mild and
ineffectual things to one another.
Well, I guest this is enough edifying torture for one night. I'll spare
y'all and save the "fiction" books I've dug up out of Donald's collection
for another message.
